Sustainable Cities is a free educational webinar series from the Department of Planning and Environment. It is designed for planning professionals and members of the public who are interested in how the planning system can support sustainable cities.
The series will look at sustainable cities through the lens of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 11, Sustainable Cities, from Agenda 2030. It will present case studies of organisations that are supporting the creation of sustainable cities and look at how planning can support systems around water, energy, waste, transportation and climate change adaption and mitigation. The presenters will include thought leaders from the public and private sectors as well as research institutes that will engage, inform and excite participants.
In the fourth session, we explore some of the challenges with the waste of cities, and how, if they are to become sustainable, need to find solutions. We look at some examples of cities that have managed to address these challenges and the role that the planning system can play in supporting this goal.
